Training History

Since 1986, Gena Bean has engaged in an eclectic form of spiritual cross-training. She has studied in multiple lineages of traditional contemplative arts.

Her current homebase for personal practice includes secular MBSR/medical-style mindfulness combined with a yoga practice with classical roots in Hinduism.

As an MBSR teacher, and interested cross-trainee, she fulfills the professional requirements set by the UMass Medical School for Buddhist study and extended silent retreats.

A recent collaboration with an Episcopal church has lead to new explorations into Christian forms of mindfulness practice as well.

Description

Coaching is an excellent component of a Contemplative Arts training pathway towards healing, resilience and a satisfying life.

Format

At Mindful Boston, we’ve found that a three-month (quarterly) coaching contract creates a strong infrastructure.

Each individual month includes a 75-minute coaching practice lesson and a 30-minute zoom call. Meditations are customized for your situation, and recorded for you during your sessions.

That means that during each 3-month quarter, you will get 3 in-person coaching lessons, 3 zoom calls, and a curated list of relevant meditations to use going forward.

Benefits of Mindful Boston coaching include:

  • Non-traditional pathways of learning and growth.

  • Experience with practices from traditional Contemplative Arts, such as meditation and yoga.

  • Access to learning tools from an established meditation studio.

  • An emphasis on growing an independent practice. You’ll get resources for developing your own practice in your own way, and sticking with it over time.
