Hello!

Three participants met at the office in Cambridgeport on Sunday Sept 24th for Interpersonal Mindfulness Labs.

IML Conversation Notes

  • Staying with a practice.
“When you are under stress, don’t get rid of the thing that helps!” It is only then that you understand how much it’s needed.
The meditation itself shows you the shifts over time.

  • Real life this month…
Real life brought experiences where standing up for oneself in the face of an authority figure (or mother figure) was required.

  • Knowing the boundaries
In order to stand up for yourself, you must have already done the work of knowing where you stand. Instead of just going with the flow no mater what, you must be aware that an imbalance is even occuring.
It’s not, “oh, it’s only that…” it has now actually become “oh, enough is enough…”

  • Firm but not mean
Noticing the differences between comfortable and wholesome. Comfortable can mean letting some bad things slide.
Not pussy-footing around. Being direct, but not mean. This releases the pressure from the volcano.

  • The Volcano
If we hold back on stating clear needs in a timely manner, it builds up, and an internal volcano explodes. It doesn’t help us, and it doesn’t help the situation.

  • There are after-effects from the volcano
An eruption can hurt the erupted-person more than anyone else, and then you need recover time in addition to not having needs met. It becomes a vicious cycle.

Teacher’s Recording Notes from Gena Bean

What I heard:

I heard two main things as I listened to the conversation during this month’s IML.

1) The meditation itself shows you the shifts over time.

and ALSO
2) You have to actively notice when something uncomfortable is happening, if you are going to do something to shift it.

How I led the meditation to be in alignment with what I heard:

Because of what I heard, I led a meditation on noticing what is real even when it is not comfortable. My hope is that regular practice in this way with help us all to be okay with standing our ground for the tough conversations and thereby getting our true needs met.
