DESCRIPTION
It can be tempting to use bandaids and gaffer tape to hold a broken piece together. But that doesn’t work for long.
In Kintsugi, broken pieces are taken apart and infused with gold. A new form of pottery is created that is stronger along the formerly broken seams.
Kintsugi is a Japanese artform.
Broken pottery is strengthened or even “fixed” by adding gold along the cracks.
“What does kintsugi mean in English?
Meaning joining with gold, this centuries-old art is more than an aesthetic. For the Japanese, it's part of a broader philosophy of embracing the beauty of human flaws.”
This is an excellent metaphor.
Stress fractures are everywhere these days. It is no longer reasonable to expect not to have any cracks. Therefore, have a strategy for the cracks!
Our inquiry:
When the crack forms, how do you strengthen (and even beautify) that place?
This is the opposite tactic from: despairing, hiding, denying, repressing, etc.
